Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Monday criticized the Taliban for refusing to agree to ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan.

Earlier, President Ashraf Ghani at Loya Jirga agreed to a Ramadan truce provided it was not “one-sided” after participants of the grand assembly called for immediate ceasefire.

However, the Taliban rejected the calls for a Ramadan ceasefire.

“Afghans were expecting a ceasefire this month. Unfortunately, the Taliban have not agreed to it yet and the fighting continues,” CE Abdullah said addressing the regular ministerial council meeting.

He praised Afghan forces for what he said preventing Taliban attacks on major cities during their spring operation.
