With the increase in fighting and violence in the country and the proliferation of Taliban and ISIS terrorist activities, the United Nations and humanitarian organizations are now expressing concern that the Afghan crisis has led to an increase in domestic displacements. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNHCR), nearly 500,000 citizens of the country may be displaced in 2019, most of which will be provided to IDPs by children and adolescents under the age of 18.

This is despite the recent drought in the country causing at least 300,000 Afghan citizens have been displaced from their homes. Meanwhile, the Afghan government has expressed its concern that in case of worsening of security situation as well as natural disasters, the government will not have the ability to overcome the crisis of internally displaced people and the international community and international institutions should stand alongside the Afghan government.
