Afghan forces free dozens of prisoners from Taliban jails in Baghlan, Kunduz

Special forces of Afghan police and army freed 47 prisoners from Taliban jails in northern provinces of Baghlan and Kunduz, officials said on Tuesday.

The raid in Baghlan happened late on Monday night, as a result of which 34 prisoners were rescued, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Those released included seven army soldiers, seven police, three intelligence forces and 17 civilians, it detailed. The prisoners were being tortured in the militants’ captivity, according to the statement.

Separately, the Defense Ministry in a statement said that commando forces raided a Taliban prison in Kunduz, freeing 13 prisoners.
