President Ghani criticizes lack of 'republic' term in intra-Afghan dialogue's statement

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has criticized lack of republic term in the joint statement of the intra-Afghan dialogue conferece held in Qatar this week.

The president made the criticism while meeting with delegates who returned to Kabul after exchanging views with the Taliban during the two-day conference in Doha.

According to some participants, President Ghani criticized lack of republic term in the statement issued following the conference, but welcomed other points.

The president reiterated the government's commitment to prevent civilian casualties.

The intra-Afghan dialogue conference came amid stepped up diplomatic efforts for peace in Afghanistan. The United States, which has held seven rounds of talks with the Taliban, hopes a peace deal is reached before September.

Expert Nasrullah Stanikzai said that the intra-Afghan meeting in Doha was a good development in peace process, hoping more such meetings will be held in future.

Uzbekistan and Norway are likely to host next such meeting.

Special envoy of Germany, which facilitated the meeting, visited Kabul to brief government leaders on the meeting.
