Khalilzad Heads to Islamabad as Kabul Vows Negotiating Team

The Afghan state minister for peace affairs said in a statement on Wednesday evening that it has formed a 15-member delegation to advance peace talks with the Taliban.

The Afghan state minister for peace affairs said in a statement on Wednesday evening that it has formed a 15-member delegation to advance peace talks with the Taliban.
“The political, social and ethnic diversity have been considered in forming the 15-member delegation so that it can negotiate on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, having in mind the values and achievements of the Afghan people,” said the statement.

“The state minister for peace eyes the state-to-state strategic relations in the region and beyond for stability in Afghanistan as a fundamental issue and the strategic relations between Afghanistan and US is of great importance.,” added the statement.

According to the statement, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan agreed with the US on next steps of the peace process.

It is worth mentioning that US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has been in talks with the government and political sides about forming a negotiating team for peace talks during his stay in Kabul.

“Wrapping up my most productive visit to Afghanistan since I took this job as Special Rep,” Khalilzad twitted, adding that “the US and Afghanistan have agreed on next steps.”

“I’m off to Doha, with a stop in Islamabad. In Doha, if the Taliban do their part, we will do ours, and conclude the agreement we have been working on,” he added.
