Taliban Leader Accuses U.S. of Creating Doubts over Peace: Report

08 Aug 2019 The Killid Group

Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, in an Eid message released Thursday, said the United States officials’ contradictory remarks have created doubts and uncertainty over peace in Afghanistan, according to sources.

"Attacks on civilian areas and the contradictory statements by your military and political officials have generated a cloud of uncertainty about this process and raised doubts about your intentions," Akhundzada said as quoted by Shamshad News. "Since bilateral trust is the foundation of a successful negotiations process, therefore, it is imperative that such negative actions are ceased."

Accusation comes at a time the United States and Taliban representatives have wrapped 7th round of Peace talks in Doha, Qatar, with the group saying both parties will soon sign final agreement on Afghan peace.

Meanwhile, Akhundzada ordered his group members to take necessary steps to protect people during upcoming Eid days, as well as pay visit to the families of those suffered injuries and lost their loved ones during attacks.

"Take all necessary steps for the well-being and security of your fellow compatriots," he said. "Visit the families of martyrs, disabled and prisoners and aid them to the best of your capabilities."

Recently, at least 18 people were killed and further 100, including women and children, were wounded in a car bomb explosion targeted PD16 headquarters in West Kabul on Wednesday morning – the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
