India has chosen to destabilize region amid Afghan peace efforts, Pakistan's ambassador in Kabul claimed on Thursday, after New Delhi stripped its portion of the contested Kashmir region of special status.

“It is sad that while Pakistan and international community is focused on the resolution of the Afghan conflict, India has chosen this time to destabilize the region,” Pakistan’s ambassador Nasrullah Khan Zahid Nasrullah.

The diplomat, however, said Kashmir tensions would not affect Pakistan’s commitment to peace efforts in Afghanistan.

“The Kashmir issue is in no way linked with the Afghan conflict. It has its own personality and it is an issue that unfortunately has not been resolved despite the brutal, unabashed, unrestricted, gross human right violations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the envoy said.

He called on international community to stop India from bringing any “material change in the Indian-occupied Kashmir and to reverse the illegal and unilateral measures taken by it on 5th of August.”

The United States has held multiple rounds of talks with the Taliban in bid to end the 18-year-old war in Afghanistan.

Washington has said that it supports direct dialogue between India and Pakistan, calling for calm and restraint.
