Jennifer Lawrence strips away the glam to play Afghanistan War veteran suffering from brain damage

Jennifer Lawrence was pushed in a wheelchair by a soldier as she filmed a scene for her upcoming movie, which was filming in New Orleans on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old star's project is currently untitled and is the first feature film helmed by acclaimed theater director Lila Neugebauer.

Wearing an anorak and sweats, Jennifer looked somber in character as a veteran who suffered brain damage in the Afghanistan War.

The premise of the new film was revealed this April by Collider, which also reported that principal photography was slated to begin in June.

Jennifer spent her 29th birthday on the set of the film last Thursday and received a bouquet at her trailer.

The Oscar-winner's co-stars on the new film include Brian Tyree Henry and Linda Emond, who - like their director - are theater veterans.

This movie is the first one Jennifer has filmed since announcing in September 2017 that she was taking a temporary sabbatical from acting.

'I don't have anything set for two years,' she told Savannah Guthrie on the Today show, joking that she might 'start making pots.'

Last March saw the release of her spy thriller Red Sparrow, which she had filmed during the previous year before her hiatus.

This year, she appeared in the flop X-Men film Dark Phoenix, which underwent principal photography from June through October of 2017.

In 2018, she founded her production company Excellent Cadaver, through which she is one of the producers on her new movie with Lila. 

Jennifer is engaged to New York City-based art gallery employee Cooke Maroney.

He is the director of New York City's Gladstone art gallery, which has a list of high profile clients. 

According to The Cut, he's previously worked with painter Carroll Dunham and Björk’s ex-boyfriend, sculptor Matthew Barney. 

After several off-Broadway ventures, Lila made her debut on The Great White Way last year with a revival of the 2000 play The Waverly Gallery.

The play, which is by Manchester By The Sea writer and director Kenneth Lonergan, depicts a woman's decline from Alzheimer's through the eyes of her grandson.

Lila's revival starred the legendary actress and writer Elaine May as the Alzheimer's patient with Manchester By The Sea Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges as the grandson.
