07 Sep 2019 Kabul Now

The Afghan security forces have reclaimed Warduj district of the north-eastern Badakhshan province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement. On Saturday, September 07, the Afghan security forces retook the district, which was under Taliban control for the last five years.

According to the statement, around 100 Taliban militants, including some foreign nationals, were killed and dozens others wounded in operation carried out by the Afghan security and defense forces.

It further claimed that Qari Fasihuddin, Taliban’s shadow governor for Badakhshan, the militant group’s military chief of the province, Qari Hafeez, and some other key commanders of the militants were among the dead insurgents.

The MoD stated that no harm was inflected on the Afghan security and defense forces during the operation.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesperson, however, rejected the news in a tweet, saying that the Afghan security forces have suffered “heavy lose.”
