Fire hit a market in central Kabul on Tuesday evening causing more than 2 million US dollars in damage, officials said.

The fire broke out at 5:30p.m. at a storehouse in Temor Shahi market and the flames were put out by fire crews at 12:00a.m.

Dried fruits, shoes, plastic goods and toys were burnt in the fire.

Manager of the market said that the fire was caused by electrical short circuit at shoes storehouse.

Some shopkeepers, however, disputed the claim, citing the timing of the incident, which happened after the market was closed.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Industries questioned recent fires in major cities of the country and criticized what it said lack of investigation.

Head of the chamber, Khan Jan Alokozay, said that last night’s fire caused $2 million in damage.

Meanwhile, Kabul police said that its preliminary findings showed that the fire had been caused due to short circuit, adding they would seriously investigate the incident.
