West Indies wins toss, elects to field against Afghanistan

LUCKNOW, India (AP) — West Indies won the toss and elected to field in the first one-day international against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

It will be the first ODI for Afghanistan under its new captain Rashid Khan since it finished last in the World Cup in England.

West Indies also has changed in captaincy with Kieron Pollard taking over from Jason Holder. Pollard will be returning to the ODIs after three years since he last played against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates in 2016.

Afghanistan will test West Indies with its experienced spin attack led by captain Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Afghanistan is hosting West Indies in this northern Indian city for three ODIs, three T20s and a one-off test.



Afghanistan: Hazratullah Zazai, Javed Ahmadi, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Alikhil, Asghar Afghan, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan (captain), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq.

West Indies: Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard (captain), Jason Holder, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr., Alzarri Joseph.
