Lewis on the charge:

The left-hander, after a quiet couple of overs to absorb the early loss of King, has gone on the offensive. With a couple of thick edges, and plenty of power, he's broken free of the hold that Mujeeb and Nabi had imposed, even managing to unsettle their lengths. Having done that, he then tore into Fareed Malik's first over, taking the left-arm seamer for 17 to finish the powerplay. WI - 52/1

Brandon King fails on debut:

There was a crisp inside-out drive through extra cover to get off the mark, but Mujeeb struck back with the very next delivery. So Brandon King - the top scorer at CPL 2019 - begins his international T20 career with a failure, falling in the first over itself. Paid the penalty for being too ambitious against Mujeeb, looking to cut him from the stumps, only for the ball to skid through sharply past him.

Captain comments

Kieron Pollard | West Indies captain: It's a new series, new guys joining us from the Caribbean. We have to get acclimatized as quickly as possible. The basics remain the same but the conditions are different. The situation dictates how you go about your cricket and that's what we'll be looking to do. Seven guys coming into our squad other than the people in the ODIs. Ramdin, Brandon King, Walsh Jr. coming in.

Rashid Khan | Afghanistan captain: We'll have a bowl first. Looks like a fresh wicket, let's see how it behaves. This is the format we are famous for, but we need to keep doing positive things. Asia Cup and the World Cup are T20, so we have to put our best foot forward. Gurbaz, Karim Janat are back.

Wonder no more:

Okay, don't know what to make of this:Word is that the toss has been delayed by 15 minutes due to 'atmospheric conditions'. Not much clarity on what's going on, no pun intended.

It's change that Afghanistan need, so a switch in format might do the trick. After a wretched start at their new home base in Lucknow, losing the ODI series 3-0, the Rashid Khan-led side are desperate for a turnaround. But let's break down the nature of the challenge they're going to face. It's a West Indies team that comprises of a lot of stars who've done well at the CPL recently and - you would think - they'd be even stronger in the T20 format than in 50 overs. Although their recent record isn't anything to boast of, having lost all their six matches this year. But, if the ODIs revealed anything, it's that this is a different team under Kieron Pollard. They'll have to quickly get over the sting of Nicholas Pooran's ball-tampering ban though.

On that note, don't scratch around, let this be your one stop for all the coverage from the first T20I. You can follow the ball-by-ball commentary here, or stick around with me on the live blog. Either way, it's a warm welcome from us.
