But as it turned out, the ODI series was one-sided and so was the first of the three T20Is. No one expected the Afghans to make this sort of a comeback, but two clinical performances from them in two days helped them register an outrageous series win. Just the way they did in the previous game, Afghanistan once again decided to bat first after winning the toss. Hazratullah Zazai, who got the side to a rocking start in the previous game, was dismissed for a duck and the star from the previous game Karim Janat followed the suit almost immediately. Ibrahim Zadran ran himself out after a poor start, scoring just 1 run in 10 deliveries. Asghar Afghan gave Rahmanullah Gurbaz the support he needed as the latter set himself on a run-fest. He completed a half-century in no time and stitched a 50-run partnership for the 4th wicket with Afghan. Even after the senior man’s dismissal, he kept going and was dismissed for a well-compiled 79 off 52 deliveries, which includes 6 fours and 5 sixes. Mohammad Nabi got a couple of boundaries towards the end, but the side couldn’t get the finish they wanted. They ended up with 156 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Sheldon Cottrell, Kesrick Williams and Keemo Paul picked up two wickets each for the Windies. Naveen-ul-Haq stars as Afghanistan defend the total with furnace Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed Lendl Simmons in the third over of the innings and Naveen-ul-Haq got rid of Brandon King in the next over, giving Afghanistan a head start in the run chase. Shai Hope was the lone warrior in their innings, who battled his way out to a half-century, but there was minimal contribution coming from the other end. Skipper Rashid Khan and Gulbadin Naib bowled some tidy overs in the middle phase, not allowing their opponents to get close to the required rate. Rashid picked up the important wicket of Shimron Hetmyer and soon, Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed the dangerous Kieron Pollard to kill their run-chase. Shai Hope got to a fifty but could never accelerate the way it was needed and succumbed to the pressure. All the West Indies could manage was 127 runs in their 20 overs, handing the Afghans a 29-run win in the third game and a 2-1 win in the series. Karim Janat was named player of the series for his all-round exploits whilst Gurbaz was named player of the match in the third fixture.
