Gen. Scott Miller, the commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, and acting Defense Minister Assadullah Khalid on Sunday met First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum in Sheberghan, the center of northern Jawzjan province, where they discussed the security situation in the north and the fight against the insurgents.

Gen. Miller said the trip involved “talking about operations in the north and just making sure we are coordinated across all the security pillars.”

Khalid said: “Our trip today is aimed at assessing the security situation and our programs for future operations. Of course, the election is also one of the topics discussed these days, but those issues will be addressed by those who are responsible to handle them,” said Khalid.

Dostum, speaking to the media, called on the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to announce the preliminary results of the election.

He said that the IEC should not keep the people waiting for results any longer.

“The election commission should find a solution and determine the valid and invalid votes so that the entire population will stop worrying,” said Dostum.
