KABUL (SW) – The Japanese aid worker, Tetsu Nakamura, got killed along with five Afghan colleagues in an armed attack on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

Attaullah Khogyani, Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, has said the incident took place in the provincial capital Jalalabad city in the morning. According to the local officials, Tetsu succumbed to wounds in hospital.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

President Ashraf Ghani awarded honorary citizenship to Tetsu earlier this year for his services to the country.

The slain Japanese aid worker was widely respected for his work in promoting irrigation and agriculture in this part of the country. He took charge of Japanese charity, Peace Medical Service, in 2008 after the abduction and subsequent killing of his countrymen, Kazuya Ito.
