Kabul residents feel insecure amid spiking street crimes

09 Jan 2020 Salam Watandar

KABUL (SW) – In the wake of persistent complaints against spike in deadly street crimes, law enforcement agencies in Kabul have launched an operation in the capital city.

However, Kabul residents are not satisfied with what they describe as very little and very late. In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of Kabul residents said many police station officials actively collaborate with the criminal syndicates, which is why there is little chance of peace and stability in Kabul despite the latest clean-up operation.

Meanwhile, the interior ministry spokesman, Nusrat Rahimi, has stressed that no one involved in street crimes would be spared, and they would even be treated as ‘terrorists’.

When contacted, Firdaws Faramarz, spokesman for police in Kabul, told SW that in the past 24 hours at least 18 alleged criminals have been taken into custody.

This comes amid ‘Kabul is Not Safe’ campaign on the social media.
