Indian Women Pledge to Fight against 'Citizenship Amendment Act'

(TKG) ─ Since last month Indian Muslims have been protesting against a new citizenship law approved to fast-track citizenship for non-Muslim minorities from the neighboring countries. Since mid-December in the Indian capital, Indian women have been, reportedly, protesting against a new citizenship law that grants Indian citizenship to “persecuted” minorities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians – from the neighboring countries of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan – but blocks naturalization for Muslims. Since the last month, the protesters have occupied a stretch of the main road near Shaheen Bagh and have been seeking to revoke the law. “We are protesting for justice, for our rights and we will not move until this law is revoked,” a protester said to media. Last month, the Citizenship Amendment Act was approved under which only non-Muslim minorities – Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Christians, Sikhs and Parsis – who fled from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan would be given Indian citizenship.   The post Indian Women Pledge to Fight against 'Citizenship Amendment Act' appeared first on The Killid Group.
