KABUL (SW) – Gen.  Scott Miller, commander of NATO's Resolute Support mission and United States Forces – Afghanistan, has met the Taliban and Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, in Qatar.

According to the sources, they met for two back-to-back days to discuss the ongoing peace talks with the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Najia Noori, spokesperson for the State Ministry for Peace Affairs, has clarified that Gen. Miller has returned to Kabul. She told Salam Watandar that the U.S. General discussed the matter of ceasefire and sanctuaries of the Taliban in Pakistan, but reached no agreement with the insurgents.

A former Taliban official, Mawlawi Qalamuddin, said in this connection that the U.S. General actually discussed potential venue and date for signing the proposed peace deal with the Taliban. He went on to claim some forces are striving to sabotage the peace talks.

There have been media reports suggesting a deal between the U.S. and Taliban was likely to be inked at the end of January that would be followed by the intra-Afghan talks.
