(TKG) − Prior to the announcement of the Afghan presidential elections, U.S. President Donald Trump had said that there was a “good chance” of peace deal with the Taliban, but recently, the Taliban issued a statement as saying that the declared results contradicts the content of the peace process. The Afghan government, on the other hand, expects the U.S.-Taliban agreement to lead to the “intra-Afghan” dialogue. The second Vice President, Sarwar Danesh, while speaking at the 26th anniversary of Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan on Wednesday [February 19, 2020] said that peace with the Taliban is a national priority proposed by the Afghan government. Mr. Danesh welcomed the U.S.-Taliban talks, adding that it is the main part of the intra-Afghan negotiations in the peace process. Political figures, however, have different views on the impact of the declaration of the presidential election results on the peace process. Sayed Naser Mosawi, an expert in international relations, believed that the peace process is approaching to reach to an end. According to him, the current election disputes have come under pressure by the international community and will ultimately lead to the formation of a “national unity government.” Shirullah Jabarkhel, an Afghan politician, meanwhile, said that announcing the results of the presidential election will be in favor of Afghan peace. The Taliban, however, had earlier said they would reach a final peace agreement with the United States by the end of this month The post Taliban: Announcement of Election Results Is 'Harmful' for the Afghan Peace Process appeared first on The Killid Group.
