Shaheen: U.S.-Taliban Agreement to be Signed in Qatar

(TKG) – The Taliban group is expected to sign the peace deal with the United States on the coming Saturday, the Taliban spokesperson told media. Suhail Shaheen, the spokesperson of the political office of Taliban in Qatar has confirmed that the peace deal would be signed on Saturday of the coming week, adding that there would definitely be an intra-Afghan dialogue after the signing of the deal. The Taliban and the Afghan government are expected to exchange at least five thousand prisoners after the signing of U.S.-Taliban peace deal. Shaheen added, the release of the prisoners is aimed to build trust, which is considered a prerequisite for the intra-Afghan peace talks. According to Shaheen, the Afghan government will release 5,000 Taliban prisoners in its first step to build trust and similarly the Taliban group will release 1,000 security forces. The agreement between the Taliban and the United States would be signed in Qatar’s capital of Doha, in the presence 26 countries’ representatives, he further said.
