The Afghan government has limited movement in the western province of Herat for three days, as 84 persons across Afghanistan tested positive for COVID-19.

Based on the central government's order, moving in Farah and Nimroz provinces is also limited.

“The case of the bazaars is being discussed, about changes for this upcoming Friday,” said Abdul Qayum Rahimi, governor of Herat province.

The government's order of less movement comes as 32 positive cases of the virus were reported in Herat yesterday.

A 45-year-old woman died from the coronavirus in Herat on Wednesday, the Health Ministry confirmed.

“Unfortunately, a female patient that tested positive for the coronavirus passed away yesterday. This is the first death from coronavirus in Herat,” said Abdul Hakim Tamana, Herat's public health director.

Residents of Herat province said they will keep in mind the limitation, but asked for help from the government regarding food.

“People should avoid gathering and try to stay at home,” said Wahid, a resident of Herat.

“The people who have economic problems, if they leave their business how will they make a living? The government should help them,” said Ali Raza, another resident of Herat.

Local officials in Herat province said that the limitation on movement might be extended.
