House hammers Ghani, Abdullah over lingering feud

25 Mar 2020 Afghanistan Times

By Farhad Naibkhel KABUL: Speaker of House of the People Mir Rahman Rahmani hammered Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah on Wednesday for their protracted power-sharing bickering, declaring the Parliament’s intent to broke a reconciliation deal between the feuding leaders. A committee has been assigned to formulate a comprehensive plan and share it with the government under the auspices of the Parliament. Both president Ghani and his rival Dr. Abdullah faced a wall of criticism with lawmakers expressing fears over prospects of the rancorous political tensions. Parliament on Wednesday delegated 6 male and 2 female MPs to devise a plan to iron out disagreements between Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah and submit it to the government. Speaker of House of the People, Mir Rahman Rahmani, confirmed the parliament’s intent to mediate between the feuding leaders and broker a reconciliation deal. The House representatives suggested an ultimatum be issued to both the claimants to the presidency to iron out their differences, otherwise the parliament should take control of the government. Parliamentarian Ghulam Hussain Naseri said that the House speaker had the carte blanche to give an ultimatum to both the leaders to resolve their differences or face the music. Naseri believed that the nation will back this initiative of the parliament. Last month, both Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah held their inauguration ceremonies at the same time in different place, claiming their right to be the president following an election mired by fraud and large-scale cheating.
