Afghan health authorities announced 531 additional cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) within the past 24 hours, bringing the infection toll to 8,676 cases. The new confirmed cases of coronavirus include 274 in Kabul, 69 in Herat, 55 in Balkh, 35 in Nangarhar, 26 in Maidan Wardak, 15 in Sare Pol, 13 in Parwan, 12 in each Paktika and Khost, seven in Paktia, five in Laghman, three in Faryab, two in each Jawzjan and Farah and one in Badghis. . As of today 193 patients having been contracted with the novel coronavirus have died of the illness while a total of 938 have recovered, the data provided by health ministry indicated. Cases in Afghanistan have been increasing despite a nationwide lockdown is imposed in the country. Officials in the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) have several times stressed on lockdown restrictions and requested the people to follow the imposed regulations, but recently, everything has returned back to normal.
