An Afghan journalist in Kabul also works as a taxi driver in order to support his family.

The 26-year-old Samim Froghi, who is the breadwinner for his three-member family, says that a low salary and other financial problems have "undermined his love for journalism."

“I receive Afs10,000 ($130) from the media outlet where I work as a journalist, I pay Afs7,000 ($91) for house rent. I cannot afford other necessities, so I decided to rent this taxi and drive it,” said Afghan journalist Samim Froghi.

“We are fighting and resisting the obstacles to be a good member of society,” said Froghi.

Over recent months, Afghan media outlets have been coping with financial problems.

“A journalist can't focus on his work while he has a fear of losing his job,” said Wahid Paiman, the editor-in-chief of Hasht-e-Sub newspaper.

Statistics show that in 2019 over 40 media outlets in Afghanistan stopped working and 400 journalists lost their jobs following a financial crisis.
