Pakistan: Dozens Killed as Passenger Plane Crashes

A Pakistan International Airlines plane with reportedly 91 passengers and eight crew aboard crashed Friday after 2:00p.m., local time in Karachi on a flight from Lahore, officials told media. The crash left at least 92 people killed, according to world news agencies, and several on the ground injured. At least two passengers were confirmed to have survived the crash and were being treated at the hospitals in Karachi, world media reported. Earlier, PIA CEO Air Vice Marshal Arshad Malik told media that the procedure of tracking the number of people killed in the incident will take at least two days. Few minutes after the plane crashed, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said in his Twitter account that he was “shocked and saddened” by the crash, adding, “I am in touch with the state airline’s chief executive. Prayers & condolences go to families of the deceased.” Hours after the plane crashed, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani also expressed his condolences in a tweet, saying, “My heart goes out to the families of victims who lost their lives in the PIA plane crash in Karachi. I offer my sincere commiserations to the people and the government of Pakistan.
