Since End of a Week-Long Reduction in Violence, 523 Civilians Killed by Taliban: MoI

Tareq Arian, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI), said addressing in a press conference that since ending a week of reduction in violence, the armed Taliban have killed and/or wounded a total of 1,667 civilians. Out of the number provided by the interior ministry spokesman, at least 523 civilians have been killed while a total of 1,144 injured as a result of Taliban attacks in the country. The civilian casualties either were caused by the group’s suicide attacks or roadside and sticky mine blasts, Arian said, adding women, children and elders were also among the people killed and/or injured. A seven-day reduction in violence in Afghanistan, negotiated by the United States and the Taliban, began on Friday, February 21 followed by an agreement reached between the United States and the armed group. Earlier today, a spokesman for the Office of National Security Council (ONSC), Javid Faisal, announced that during the Muslims holy month of Ramadan, as many as 146 civilians, including women and children were killed and 430 others wounded by the Taliban militants.
