Families of Killed Media Workers Criticize Afghan Govt

31 May 2020 Tolo News

The two Khurshid TV employees killed in a roadside bomb blast in Kabul on Saturday evening-- Zamir Amiri and Shafiqullah Zabih--were laid to rest in their hometowns Mir Bacha Kot and Shakardara districts, respectively, in the north of the city on Sunday.

Their families and friends who attended their funerals criticized the government for “inattention” to the security of the citizens and for not preventing terrorist attacks.

They called for justice and said the perpetrators who plotted the attack should be punished.

Zamir Amiri, who worked as a reporter for Khurshid TV, was newly graduated from university, according to his father, Tahir Shah, who said his son’s death has shocked him and everyone in his family.

“A person graduates from university and wants to have a job to support his parents. Regretfully, he was martyred before taking his diploma,” he said.

“He had big dreams to fulfill,” said Mir Zahid Shah, Zamir’s brother.

Other relatives of Zamir said the security agencies failed to ensure the safety of the people.

“We call on the government to prevent such incidents; otherwise, we will stand up against such perpetrators,” said Mohammad Amin, Zamir’s relative.

Another employee of the TV network, Shafiqullah Zabih, who worked for the technical department of the network, was laid to rest in Shakardara district, Kabul province.

“How long will we have this killing? Today, one was killed and tomorrow another will be killed. The war should be stopped,” said Safiullah, brother of Shafiqullah.

“The current situation is because the government is not fulfilling its responsibility,” said Hujjatullah Burhani, a religious scholar.

Six other employees of the TV network were wounded in the incident that happened as they were on their way home in a bus with eight passengers and a driver. The Taliban has denied responsibility for the attack.
