56 Taliban militants, eight police killed in battle for control of Anar Dara district

56 Taliban militants and eight police were killed in battle for control of Anar Dara district in Afghanistan’s western Farah province, officials said Monday.

The battle began last night with the insurgents seizing government compounds in the district.

Eight police were killed while 10 more were wounded in the attack by insurgents. Police chief of the district was also died, Interior Ministry confirmed.

Hours after the district’s collapse, Afghan forces launched an operation involving also commando forces and reclaimed the district.

Nusrat Rahimi, deputy spokesman for Interior Ministry, said that the operation left 56 militants dead and 32 more injured.

Farah has suffered some deadly attacks by the Taliban recently.

Two days ago, Taliban attacked commando forces in Bala Bluk district of the province, killing several of them.
