Govt. must bring killers of human rights defenders to justice: AIHRC

04 Jul 2020 Afghanistan Times

AT News KABUL: Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission has called on the government to seriously probe the killing of their two staffers. Seven days ago, Fatima Khalil, 24, was on her way to work at Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) when the car she was traveling in exploded. Khalil was a donor liaison officer at the AIHRC, and her driver, Jawid Folad was killed in a “sticky” bomb attached to their vehicle. Kabul city has seen a spur in violence this month from target killings to hospital attack and top mullah’s assassination.   The AIHRC has appreciated support at national and international level for condolences with the victim families and for a collective voice to bring the culprits to the book. The Human Rights Watchdog in a statement on Saturday called for an all-out investigation to the incident that no group claimed responsibility for. We are gathered today to acknowledge the tireless word of our slain members, AIHRC added in a statement. “We want to fully probe into the incident; its result should be shared with the AIHRC and the victim families.” Not only should this, but all the deliberate attacks on the clerics, Attorney General Office employees, media staffers, social and culture figures, be probed, the statement added.
