Training Camp in Nangarhar Planned for Afghan Cricketers

13 Jul 2020 Tolo News

As part of preparations for the 2021 U19 Asia Cup, Afghanistan’s Cricket Board (ACB) will soon organize a four-day training camp for 30 players in the age categories of 16 and 17, the ACB announced on Sunday.

The players will also participate in four one-day matches, and part of the program will involve playing at Ghazi Amanullah Khan Stadium in eastern Nangarhar province--observing relevant health guidelines and under the supervision of national coaches, the statement said.

The 30 selected players in the camp are those who had participated and performed well in U-16 camp last year.

Also, at Nangarhar's Behsud Cricket Academy young players are back to training and are working on their fitness and preparations for upcoming matches after a long delay due to COVID-19 restrictions.

More than a month ago, the ACB held its first training for the national team after a long delay due to COVID-19 to prepare for a strong presence in the Asian Cup and World Cup.

But last week the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that the Asia Cup cricket tournament that was supposed to be held in September has been postponed to June  2021 over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan was originally selected to host the tournament, but the decision was canceled due to security reasons.
