Roadside bomb kills four civilians in Kandahar

Four civilians were killed when a roadside bomb hit a car carrying them in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Thursday morning, police said.

Six other civilians were wounded in the blast which happened in Zalkhan area of Panjwayee district, said Jamal Nasir Barekzai, a spokesman for provincial police.

The deaths included three women and one child. Those injured included four children, one woman and one man, he said.

The official blamed the Taliban for the bombing, but the group has yet to make comment.

The blast comes as the Defense Ministry said that 44 roadside bombs were discovered and defused in Maiwand district of Kandahar province on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, an explosion went off in the country’s western Farah city on Wednesday evening, killing four police and injuring 22 civilians, according to the Interior Ministry.
