Unidentified men set fire to a school in Takhar

TALUQAN (SW) – Unidentified men set fire to a boys’ high school in capital of Takhar province, Taluqan, officials confirmed.

According to the provincial education department officials, unidentified gunmen set fire to the Abu Osman Taluqani boys' school in the city center. A source from the Takhar department of education, who did not want to be named in the report, said that around 2 am on Thursday, gunmen entered the school and set it on fire after beating the guards.

According to the source, in this fire, the documents, administrative registers and the furniture as well as students’ records have been completely burned.

Javad Hijri, spokesman for the governor of Takhar, said in a statement that the first floor of the school has been completely burnt down.

Hassamuddin Nazari, head of the department of education, wrote on his Facebook page that it was one of the most important and central schools in the province, with nearly 3,000 students studying. He accused the local officials of the province of recklessness and called for investigations.

This is the third time in the last six months that schools in the province have been set on fire.
