Kabul-Mazar Highway Reopens after Taliban Attack

15 Apr 2018 The Killid Group

The Kabul-Mazar-i-Sharif highway reopened on Saturday evening after being closed as a result of a clash between security forces and Taliban militants in northern Baghlan province.

The clash erupted before noon in Dushi district, resulting in closure of the key road for three hours against traffic.

Baghlan police Chief Brig. Gen. Ikramuddin Sarai said Taliban had been pushed back in Kela locality.

Two Taliban fighters were killed a third injured during the clash, with police also suffering casualties, he said. "Now the highway is open and passengers can easily travel," he said.

A reliable security source said the clash erupted after the Taliban attacked and killed Lt. Co. Hassan Kashmi, a senior police officer in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital.

No details about more casualties in that attack could be ascertained. The Taliban confirmed the clash and claimed Kashmi and his two security men were killed.
