15 killed in Taliban attacks in Sar-i-Pul, Ghazni

At least 15 people were killed in overnight Taliban attacks in northern Sar-i-Pul province and central-eastern Ghazni province, officials said Sunday.

The attack in Sar-i-Pul targeted uprising forces in Taghay Khwaja and Tabar areas of Sancharak district, said Zabihullah Ahmani, a spokesman for provincial governor.

The uprising forces were on a checkpoint to secure their areas when they faced the attack, he said. 11 of them were killed in the assault.

Three militants including a commander identified as Nooruddin were killed while four more were injured in counterattack, according to the official.

The attack in Ghazni targeted local police checkpoints in Jaghatu district.

Mohammad Arif Noori, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that four Afghan local police were killed while five more were injured in the assault.

He said that the clash left also seven Taliban militants dead and five more injured.
