As many as 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed while 17 of them were injured during latest battle near the Durand Line, Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said Monday.

The battle in Zazai Maidan district of Khost started on Sunday morning as the Pakistan was building military installations along the Durand Line. Residents in the area also took part in the battle.

"We defended our soil against any aggression in the past and we will defend it in the future," Mohammad Radmanish, acting spokesman for Afghan Defense Ministry, told reporters in Kabul.

Khost Governor Hakam Khan Habibi said that five bodies of Pakistani soldiers had been handed over in coffins to their country according to international laws.

He said that a Pakistani soldier who had been captured was also handed over.

The battle also left one Afghan civilian and several Afghan forces killed. However, most casualties were suffered by the Pakistani side, according to MoD.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been at their lowest in recent years.

Nearly two weeks ago, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi visited Kabul following invitation from President Ashraf Ghani.

Abbasi pledged also to prevent border violations days after Kabul accused Pakistan of carrying out jet strikes in Afghanistan's Kunar province.
