Ravichandran Ashwin has been the face for the Indian spin bowling department for quite some time now. However, in recent times, he has found himself on the bench one time too many owing to the emergence of young blooded wrist-spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. If reports are to be believed, Ashwin might find himself bereft of any significant practice before the upcoming tour against England.

Reportedly, the lack of communication between the player and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might be the primary reason that Ashwin is at a risk of finding himself without any cricketing action at hand in the coming month. He’s opted out of playing in the County games and might be rested for the historic Test against Afghanistan as well.

Ravichandran Ashwin might be rested ahead of Afghanistan Test

According to TOI, the two-member Committee of Administrators (CoA) has been developing plans of resting almost eight Test regulars ahead of the lone Test against Afghanistan. Ashwin, who may be named amongst the eight, will essentially not have any match experience with the red ball ahead of the England tour if rested.

While Indian skipper Virat Kohli has signed on with Surrey as a part of his preparations ahead of the rigorous tour on English soil, Cheteshwar Pujara is already playing for Yorkshire. Ashwin, on the other hand, had opted to play in the Afghanistan Test and consequently, the off-spinner had discontinued his talks with Worcestershire, who were interested in drafting him into the side in June. The county side has already signed up Travis Head as his replacement.

The final squad to play Afghanistan will be zeroed in on by the Indian selectors on Tuesday, May 8. In case Ashwin is indeed rested due to the evident miscommunication, the senior bowler will have only the two India A four-day games against West Indies A in Leicester and Croydon between June 10 and 20 as an exposure to red ball cricket before the England Test series.
