Afghanistan and Pakistan on Monday agreed on a mechanism for joint working groups for discussions on all key areas, according to a joint statement.

Afghanistan and Pakistan on Monday agreed on a mechanism for joint working groups for discussions on all key areas, according to a joint statement.

The two sides finalised the Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS), a joint action plan for cooperation in key areas of counter-terrorism and for reduction of violence and promotion of peace and reconciliation involving repatriation of refugees and joint economic development, a joint statement said after the two sides’ high-level talks in Islamabad.

Six joint working groups will be formed to implement the seven principles agreed in the meeting between Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister Abbasi during his visit to Kabul on April 6. Daily Times reported.

Afghanistan and Pakistan also agreed to avoid territorial and air violations of each other’s territory. The leadership of both countries also agreed to use the plan’s cooperation mechanisms to respond to any mutual issues and concerns.

Working groups will be established to implement the agreed principles while both sides will also nominate “liaison officers” for coordination and supervision, the statement added.

Both sides agreed that effective and full implementation of APAPPS would contribute towards the common objectives of eliminating terrorism and achieving peace, stability, prosperity and development of the people of the two countries.

This comes as negotiations with Pakistan have always had no active outcomes.
