31 security forces martyred in Kunduz

AT-KABUL: In a multiple attack on security checkpoints in northern Kunduz province, at least 31 Afghan security forces embraced martyrdom and over 50 Taliban insurgents were killed and wounded in retaliation budge, official said Thursday.

The Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Daesht-e-Arachi district on Wednesday night, martyring 31 security forces, wounding 15 others, mostly National Army, security officials told Afghanistan Times.

“The attack occurred in Pul-e-Momin area located between Dasht-e-Archi district in Kunduz, and Khwaja Ghar district in Takhar,” Shaheen Military Corps Spokesman, Hanif Rezai said.

However in extensive fighting erupted between them, the brave Afghan security forces killed and wounded over 50 Taliban militants, the spokesman added.

The fighting last for two hours, where unfortunately 15 soldiers martyred and 13 other received injures, he said, adding three check points were also collapse to the Taliban during attack.

However, he said that Taliban insurgents also sustained heavy casualties during counter attack, adding 50 Taliban fighters either killed or wounded. Six dead bodies of the militants still lay in battlefield, he noted.

To prevent additional and supportive forces, the Taliban insurgents exploded Momen Bridge, he said with validating that additional troops have reached the area. “Situation is normal and utterly under Afghan security forces’ control.”

Meanwhile, Takhar Governor Spokesman, Sanaullah Taimori has confirmed Taliban’s massive attack on security check posts in Pul-e-Momine area against army and local upriser forces that left heavy causalities. “31 dead bodies and 15 wounded of security forces have been shifted to the provincial hospital.”

The Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack.
