According to Nai, 80 percent of media outlets do not pay their journalist on time.

“a number of reporters have complained to Nai, saying some media outlets do not pay their salaries on time,” said Abdul Mujib Khalwatgar, the CEO of Nai. “few media outlets pay their journalists on time, but most media do not pay the salaries of journalists up to two months, six months and even a year,” he added. “Some media do not have a specific policy to hire and dismiss journalists. They go beyond the law”.

The CEO of Nai warned those media outlets which do not pay their journalists on time that “if such situation continues, their names will be disclosed during next press conference”.

Despite, security challenges, financial problems severely threaten Afghanistani journalists and the government has not paid a serious attention to their status in the past 17 years.

“Nai has recorded 58 violence cases against journalists since the beginning of 1397 (solar year),” Khalwatgar further said. “13 were murder cases out of 58 cases”.

According to Nai, murder cases against journalists increased by 33 percent compared to last year, insults 9 times and beaten cases up by 36 percent.
