Afghanistan Ulema called for a long term ceasefire between the Afghan government and the Taliban

Saturday, August 4, 2018 – Maulawi Qiamuddin Kashaf, head of Afghanistan Ulema Council called on the Taliban and the Afghan government to announce a permanent ceasefire on  the verge of Eid-Ul-Adha.  Maulawi Kashaf, at the first meeting of the commission to review the proposals of the Ulama for social reforms, which was held at Government Media and Information Center (GMIC) said: Afghanistan Ulema propose a permanent ceasefire between the conflicting parties in order to pave the way for direct negotiations between the Taliban and government. Two months ago, around three thousand Ulema have gathered at a prominent conference in Loy Jirga tent Kabul calling the current war illegitimate and urged for a ceasefire in addition to other suggestions.   Following the Ulemas’ Fetwa, President Ashraf Ghani, for the first time, announced a ceasefire from 27th Ramadan to 5th of Eid-Ul-Fitre, for ten days. As Eid-Ul-Udha is approaching, the chairman of Ulemas council of Afghanistan once again called on the Taliban and Government to announce a longer ceasefire.
