ANDSF pounds rebel strongholds, kills 109

AT-KABUL: Afghan security and defense forces have pummeled militant strongholds countrywide as part of military crackdowns that left at least 109 insurgents killed and 77 others wounded since Tuesday, defense authorities said Wednesday.

In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense, (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal has conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Paktia, Nimroz Logar, Urzgan, Zabul, Farah, Herat, Faryab, Kunduz and Helmand provinces.

Statement said that in these operations 109 insurgents were killed and 77 others wounded.

Afghan National and Defense Security forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations in the past 24 hours, 50 Taliban fighters were killed, five others wounded and two stronghold along with some ammunition and weapons destroyed in Chenarto and center of Urzgan, 21 insurgents including two local commanders named Nanai and Sabzgul were killed in Shindand district of Herat, Amarat Shahrabad and Sangchal villages also cleared from enemy in Shindand district, 16 militants were killed and 37 others wounded in Balablok district of Farah, 12 rebels including a local commander named Laghmani were killed, 15 others wounded and three rounds of mine discovered and seized in Desho, Nawah, and Sangeen districts of Helmand province also some ammunition with a stronghold of the enemy  destroyed in province.

Similar, five militants were killed and three others wounded in Mohammad Agha district of Logar, three insurgents were killed and five others wounded in Zurmat district of Paktia, two terrorist killed and 12 others wounded in Shinkai district of Zabul province.

In past 24 hours, 11 planed clearing operations, and 91 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air forces conducted  aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.

ANA as the nation’s defense forces are ready to give sacrifice to bring lasting peace and security to the people and are determined to eradicate terror groups in Afghanistan.
