The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) announced the final list of the candidates for parliamentary election on Saturday, removing 35 candidates from the final list.

IECC on August 11 listed the names of the candidates, which included 12 currently serving members of parliament. It also warned 45 other candidates.

According to IECC, eight candidates of the upcoming parliamentary election including Hamayoun Hamayoun and Muhammad Anwar Oryakhail from Khost province received the serious warnings.

Officials at the IECC said the final list was the result of a month-long probe launched after its office received complaints against hundreds of candidates from voters in 34 provinces.

Some candidates were alleged to have been involved in cases of murder, rape and extortion.

The Afghan government reacted at the decision of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) to drop the names of 35 candidates from the parliamentary elections.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the government of national unity has always been and is committed to on time, transparent, and fair elections.

The statement further added that the independence and authorities of the elections commissions are clear as per the laws and the government fully respects the independence of the independent election commission and the independent electoral complaints commission.
