Afghan forces’ crackdown on militants leaves 48 dead

AT-KABUL: Relentless military operations of Afghan security forces to fight off Taliban rebels in troubled southern, northern and central provinces have left at least 48militants dead and 8 more wounded since Saturday, officials said Sunday.

Afghan In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense, (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal has conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areasof Nangarhar, Ghazni, Paktia, Maidan Wardak, Urzgan, Faryab, Kunduz, Baghlan and Helmand Provinces.

Statement said that in these operations48insurgents including nine Daesh affiliates were killed and eight others wounded.

Afghan National and Defense Security forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations in the past 24 hours, 28 Taliban fighters were killed, eight others wounded and three vehicles of the enemy destroyed in Gilan and Muqor districts of Ghazni and nine Daesh affiliates were killed in Khogiani district of Nangarhar province.

Similar,nine militants were killed in Jalriz district of Maidan Wardak, two insurgents were killed, two others wounded and three strongholds with 12 rifles of different weapons belonged to the enemy destroyed in Chahar Asiab area of Khas Urzgan district in Urzgan province.

In past 24 hours, seven planed clearing operations,and96 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air forces conducted 78aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including nine strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.

ANA as the nation’s defense forces are ready to give sacrifice to bring lasting peace and security to the people and are determined to eradicate terror groups in Afghanistan.
