AT-KABUL: The peace movement says it was more optimistic to a durable peace in the country than the past, arguing that the joining of more people from different areas has encouraged them for peace.

The movement members who had started a long trip on foot from the southern province of Helmand, are walking to the northern provinces after visiting Kabul and have arrived in Doshi district of Baghlan province.

The movement’s spokesman, Besmellah Watandost said Sunday that they faced several health problems on their way to north, but none of them stopped travelling.

“We have arrived in the Doshi district of Baghlan province. We held meetings with the people on our way in ShakarDara, Mir Bacha Kot, Kalakan and QaraBagh districts of Kabul, Charikar, Jabalosseraj and Salang of Parwan province as well as Khenjan district of Baghlan province. Thousands of people supported us and said they would join the movement because they are tired of war,” said Watandost.

He added that the movement members would arrive in Pol-e-Khomri city, the provincial capital of Baghlan and then would depart for Balkh province, where they would inform everyone about their peaceful goals even in the remote villages.

The movement would then go to the western province of Herat, according to Watandost.

In Kabul, the members of movement held sit-ins in front of the embassies of the United States, Pakistan, Iran, Russia as well as the United Nations office for Afghanistan, calling on the people of these countries to help peace program in Afghanistan.

“This declares that the people of Afghanistan are quite tired of war and instability and are keen for peace. The peace movement has the voice of every Afghan and I hope they can convince the war sides to sit for dialogues,” said HomairaSaqeb, a civil society activist.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, asked the members of the movement to raise their voices in front of what he called “American centers”.
