Several cricketers got together to console a young Indian fan after he was seen crying following India’s tie against Afghanistan. The youngster was perhaps upset because he thought India had failed to qualify for the final, but the men in blue had already sealed their berth in Friday’s final after having defeated Pakistan in the Super 4.

The match was lit up by Mohammad Shahzad who raced to a scintillating century. The opener smashed as many as 11 fours and 7 massive sixes, pushing Afghanistan’s first innings total to 252. Although it was an inconsequential match, Afghanistan were keen to sign off with a win, and defeating India would have been a huge achievement.

In reply, India got off to a steady start with their new opening pair of KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu. Their century stand meant the Indians were well on course for a comfortable victory. Nevertheless, India lost wickets in clusters, and eventually found themselves needing 7 off the final over.

Afghanistan’s spinning sensation Rashid Khan was tasked with the crucial last 6 deliveries – all he needed was to get one wicket. But to everyone’s surprise, Jadeja smashed the second ball of the over to the boundary. With victory in sight, he once again went for the glory shot, but holed out off the penultimate delivery, the match ending in a nail-biting tie.

How was the child consoled?

While fans and experts across the globe hailed Afghanistan’s gutsy performance, a young Indian boy in the stands couldn’t hold his tears back when India failed to seal a victory. The fan was donning a Team India jersey, and was seen with his father who tried his best to console him. But that all changed when pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar spoke to him over the phone – the smiles were back on the youngster’s face.

“He is happy now and looking forward to watching the finals…Really kind of @BhuviOfficial to call and cheer him up,” Amarpreet Singh, the father of the boy shared via Twitter.

India spinner Harbhajan Singh also posted a heartwarming message for him on social media. “Koi na putt Rona Nahi hai final aapa jittange, (Don’t lose heart kid, we will win the final),” he wrote with a photograph of the child. Even Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Mohammad Shahzad took time off to click photographs with the young fan to make sure he went home with a smile on his face.
