Afghanistan’s 20-year-old spinning sensation Rashid Khan added another feather to his cricketing crown as he was ranked as ICC’s top all-rounder in ODIs. His claim to the top spot was strengthened by his performance in the recently held Asia Cup where he took 10 wickets besides scoring 87 runs in five matches that included a crucial half-century. The latest rankings were released on September 30.

The Afghanistan cricket star, who even has a fan in the country’s president, is the fastest bowler to claim 100 wickets in ODIs and one of the top cogs in his team’s wheel. His latest achievement is another proud moment for a side which is young in international circuit and has already made quite a mark.

Star Sports tweeted Rashid’s promotion in an eye-catching tweet that saluted the cricketer both for his bowling and batting skills. It said while the batsmen couldn’t read him earlier, now, the bowlers can’t do it either against him. He gained 67 points for his Asia cup performance which catapulted him to the helm.

Rashid has a memorable birthday on September 20 when he slammed an unbeaten 57 at No.9 before picking two vital wickets against Bangladesh to help his side registering a thumping win. It was the second fastest fifty by an Afghanistan batsman which came in just 32 balls.

Rashid replaced Shakib Al Hasan

He toppled Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was ruled out of the game midway into Asia Cup with a serious finger injury and is now undergoing treatment back home. With 353 points, Rashid is now eight points ahead of the Bangladeshi cricketer while his compatriot Mohammad Nabi is in the third spot with 337 points.

There is no Indian in the top 10 all-rounders in the ICC’s list and the best position that India has is 15th which belongs to Hardik Pandya, who incidentally also got ruled out from Asia Cup because of injury.
