A suicide bombing went off in central Maidan Wardak province on Wednesday, killing at least four army soldiers, an official said.

The blast happened in Chak district center.

General Raziq Sapai, commander of Logar-based fourth army division, was among four injured in the bombing, said Abdul Rahman Mangal, a spokesman for provincial governor.

The four who were killed in the incident were his guards, he said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

It comes as the country is preparing to hold parliamentary election on coming Saturday.

Earlier in the day, a bomb killed a candidate in southern province of Helmand, an attack claimed by the Taliban.
