1 million people get access to drinking water

14 Jan 2019 Afghanistan Times

KABUL:Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development says it

has provided about one million people with drinkable water through implementing

402 water projects across the country.

The ministry said Sunday in a statement that the projects

include 248 water supply networks, 925 deep wells, 7,800 meter long canals and

3,300 cubic meter ditches in several areas of 34 provinces, from which 920,000

people have now access to healthy potable water.

These projects cost more than $ 15 million and provided job

opportunity for some one million laborers.

Drought has been considered as one of the biggest problems

threatening people’s lives along insecurity and corruption. Thousands of

families were displaced from their houses in the provinces of Ghor, Faryab and

Badghis in 2018 in search of finding water resources in the neighboring

provinces.
