Some members of Afghanistan's parliament on Wednesday suggested that foreign compounds should be moved out of populous areas to avoid high number of casualties in militant attacks.

The suggestion comes after a Taliban truck bomb killed four people and wounded more than 110 in eastern Kabul near the Green Village compound, which is home to several international companies and charities. Most of the victims in the attack were civilians, officials said.

“Guesthouses and military bases should immediately be moved out of residential areas where civilians and defenceless people live so that civilians are not harmed in militant attacks,” Lower House Speaker Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi said.

Ghulam Farooq Majroh, an MP representing Herat, also called on the Afghan government to help protect civilians and move foreign compounds out of civilian-populated areas.

Monday’s attack targeting Green Village was not the first to hit the area.

Najib Danish, a spokesman for Interior Ministry, said that security institutions were considering efforts to address the issue.
