Addressing a gathering held Thursday under the title of “national consensus of women on peace in Kabul, president M. Ashraf Ghani said that he has let the world and regional countries to talk with Taliban.

Pointing to the achievements and the message of women to the peace process and the US – Taliban talks, president Ghani said that “today, women unitedly say they want peace but not at the cost of going back to the past”.
“The Taliban need to know whether they want to repeat the bleeding scenes or witness construction scenes,” said Mr Ghani. Adding that “the Loya Jirga (national assembly) will discuss the ways to reach peace, and women will have a strong presence”.

President Ghani also touched the remarks made by Ata M. Noor about politicians who do not have a popular base and said: “some say, what we did and what are we doing, and there are some who did not do anything. Today, they can come and see whom the people and the nation are with and that where is the pulse of the society”.
Speaking about the day of supporting ANDSF, he said that “they are the guardians of the constitution and the women’s rights”.

President Ghani also said that the government is ready for peace talks and the legitimate Afghan government must own the peace process.
“No one can force peace on us and a peace which is not sustainable is not acceptable for us,” he added.

The remarks come as the Taliban do not recognize the government and have always denied talks with it.
